I'm finally getting the opportunity to read Seth Godin's book "Linchpin," and man, does it resinate. The main focus is on creating an indispensable employee, one who is constantly one step ahead. Now, granted, I'm about halfway through the book so if he covers this in the second half, don't blame me. For me, and especially for my company, my goal is to create personal brands first and the company second. I know that if I'm invested in building my own brand (and my company's) then I'll be more concerned about the quality of the work that I'm doing. I feel that way for employees of corporations as well- if there's no personal connection, then what would make someone go above and beyond the call of duty? Without a drive to make oneself better, there's no reason to make a mindless company better. I want to work with people who are personally invested in their work. Why ever work with someone passionless? And In these days, there's no reason.
